CheeHuu ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the CheeHuu mobile application (the "App"). Please read this policy carefully.

For Apple App Store compliance: This policy is publicly accessible and describes our data practices as required by Apple's App Store Review Guidelines.


1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, password, and display name.
  • Profile Information: You may optionally provide your bio, profile photo (avatar), website link, role (captain, engineer, technician, chef, service), certification, boat name, boat type, boat capacity, boat length, and boat photo.
  • User Content: We collect content you create and share, including posts, tips, comments, photos, videos, messages, events, and experience information (e.g., snorkel spots, anchorages, restaurants).
  • Contact Information: If you choose to share a contact from your device's address book with another user in a post or message, we collect the contact details you select (name, phone numbers, emails). We only access contacts when you explicitly choose to share one—we do not read or upload your entire contact list.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Location Data: With your permission, we collect your device's location to:

    • Display your position on the map
    • Show nearby experiences and users
    • Enable optional live location sharing with other users (including when the app is in the background, if you enable this feature)
    • Power the Anchor Alarm feature, which monitors your boat's position relative to your anchor and alerts you if you drift beyond a set radius (requires background location when the alarm is active)
    • Calculate distances to experiences and other users

    Location is used only when you grant permission. You can disable location sharing at any time in the App settings. Anchor Alarm will not function without location access.

  • Device Information: We may collect device identifiers and push notification tokens to deliver push notifications (e.g., new messages, tips, mentions).

1.3 Information from Third-Party Services

  • Map Services: The App uses Apple Maps (iOS) and Google Maps (Android) to display maps. Map tiles and rendering are provided by these services; their respective privacy policies apply to how they handle map-related data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the App: Operate the map, community feed, messaging, live location sharing, profiles, and other features
  • Authenticate and manage your account: Sign you in, maintain your profile, and secure your data
  • Deliver communications: Send push notifications (messages, tips, mentions, reactions, etc.)
  • Improve the App: Fix bugs, improve performance, and develop new features
  • Protect users: Enforce our terms, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations

3. How We Share Your Information

  • With Other Users: Your profile (name, avatar, bio, role, boat info) and shared content (posts, tips, photos, location when enabled) are visible to other App users as part of the service.

  • Service Providers: We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

    These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the App. They are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.


4. Data Retention

  • Account Data: We retain your account and profile data as long as your account is active.
  • User Content: Posts, tips, photos, messages, and other content remain until you delete them or until your account is deleted.
  • Location Data: Live location coordinates are updated in real time and are not retained for historical tracking beyond what is necessary to display your current position to other users.
  • After Account Deletion: Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

5. Your Choices and Rights

  • Location: You can revoke location permissions in your device settings. If you disable location, map and live-location features will not work.
  • Notifications: You can disable push notifications in your device settings.
  • Contacts: You can deny contact access; you will not be able to share contacts in posts or messages, but all other features will work.
  • Camera & Photos: You can deny camera or photo library access; you will not be able to upload photos or videos, but other features will work.
  • Profile & Content: You can edit or delete your profile and content within the App.
  • Account Deletion: You can delete your account at any time from within the App: go to Profile → Account → Danger Zone → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and associated data. If you need help or cannot access the in-app option, contact us (see Section 10).

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights (e.g., access, correction, portability, restriction, objection). Contact us to exercise these rights.


6. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest where applicable. We store data with Supabase, which provides security controls and compliance certifications. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.


7. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.


8. International Data Transfers

Our servers and service providers may be located outside your country. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws. We take steps to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this policy and applicable law.


9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App or on our website and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
